Mendelssohn composed ‘Hymn of praise’ in 1840 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Guttenberg printing press. The music is bold and passionate, and reflects this truly momentous invention. The words Mendelssohn used came from Luther’s translation of the Old Testament., which we shall be singing in English translation. The concert also includes ‘Verleih Uns Frieden’ and the joyous ‘Oh For The Wings of a Dove.’
The choir will be supported by the West Forest Sinfonia, with sopranos Sarah Labiner and Anne-Marie Cullum, and the tenor Rhodri Prys Jones.
Tickets Adult £12 and £6 for students in further and tertiary education.
Tickets available from the website www.fleetchoralsociety.org and from ‘Serendipity’, 295 Fleet Road (opposite Fleet Library).
