Saturday 14th October 2017
7.30pm - The Church on The Heath, Elvetham Heath
We begin with ‘The King Shall Rejoice’, a rousing anthem Handel wrote for the coronation of George II and Queen Caroline in 1727. In this, as for the whole concert, we are delighted to be accompanied by the fine professional playing of the West Forest Sinfonia.
Then it’s Mozart, and we shall hear his exquisite motet ‘Exsultate, jubilate’ (‘Exult, rejoice’), to be sung by Emma Mabin, a local soprano of international reputation. The choir always love to perform with Emma – she is a very special talent. She will also be joined by the choir in the magical aria ‘Laudate Dominum’ from Mozart’s ‘Vespers’.
And we finish the concert with music by ‘The Red Priest’; Antonio Vivaldi was known by that name in Venice because he had bright red hair, a total rarity in 18th century Italy! His ‘Gloria’ is a simply joyful work, and rightly one of the most popular choral works ever written. We welcome the brilliant mezzo Thalie Knights, who will join Emma Mabin in the duets and arias.
Tickets are £12 each; Children and Students £6.
